About us

We’re Cruise, the self-driving ride-hailing service.
We are building the world’s most advanced, all-electric, self-driving cars to safely connect people to the places, things, and experiences they care about. We believe self-driving cars will help save lives, reimagine cities, redefine time in transit, and restore freedom of movement for many.

At Cruise, our engineers have opportunities to grow and develop while learning from leaders at the cutting-edge of their fields. With a culture of internal mobility, there`s opportunity to thrive in a variety of disciplines. This is a place for dreamers and doers to succeed.

If you are looking to solve one of today’s most complex engineering challenges, see the results of your work in hundreds of self-driving cars, and make a positive impact in the world starting in our cities, join us.

About the role

We are looking to hire exceptional Machine-Learning Engineers/Researchers to drive the research and development of cutting edge multi-modal sensor fusion systems for autonomous driving. It’s an excellent opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team and bring real-world impact through state-of-the-art model deployment on the road. This role provides a unique opportunity to work with the world’s most advanced autonomous driving system and make a profound impact across the entire perception stack through fundamental research and development. Bring your passion and experience for driving high-impact R&D projects and we will put your ideas on the road!

What you will be doing:

  • Develop novel multi-modal fusion algorithms for Cruise’s perception stack which includes, but not limited to, camera/lidar/radar/microphone signals
  • Define research directions and execution strategies to serve the operational and business objectives of the company
  • Explore, prototype, validate, and iterate on novel sensor-fusion algorithms
  • Work with Cruise engineers to optimize, productionize, and monitor/refine on-road performance of the models
  • Bring world-class subject matter expertise to the team to guide the current and future technology investments and directions
  • Collaborate with other team-members to bring efficiency and alignment through design-docs, implementation, experimentation, code-reviews and better R&D practices
  • Actively share your research findings with the broader Perception team at Cruise and publish note-worthy research outcomes in Tier-1 conferences, such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, ICML and/or NeurIPS
Your profile

Minimum requirements:

  • University degree (MSc or PhD) in computer science, information and communication technology, electrical engineering or similar
  • Several years of industry experience
  • Excellent, and demonstrable, mathematical foundation of machine-learning/deep learning fundamentals and their applications to computer-vision systems, such as scene/image-understanding/classification, 2D/3D object-detection/segmentation, point-cloud analysis and/or image/lidar-processing
  • Excellent coding and software design skills (Python and C++)
  • Hands-on, demonstrable, experience in at least one major machine learning framework: PyTorch (preferred), Caffe, Tensorflow and/or MxNet
  • Prior experience of working with a team in senior position
  • Profound English language skills

Preferred requirements:

  • Prior experience with the perception stack for autonomous driving
  • Experience with radar/lidar data and signal processing
  • Experience in deploying perception algorithms into real world environment
Benefits

While doing meaningful work is rewarding in itself, we also offer the following programs and benefits to support the extraordinary humans who serve as the backbone in making our self-driving cars go

  • Competitive salary including a performance bonus
  • Capital accumulating benefits
  • Membership in the Body & Soul gym
